For the Happiness and Well-Being of Our Horses

“Can horses really be okay on the sixth floor of a building?”

We’re here to answer that question honestly and directly, while sharing how we have designed and maintained the environment to support the horses’ well-being.

Why Do We Live with Horses
on the Sixth Floor of a Building?

What we hope to create is a society where horses are a natural part of everyday life, living close to people.

Around the world, there are communities where horses are deeply woven into daily life. We wanted to foster a new kind of relationship between people and horses here in Japan as well.

For us, being in the city was an important part of that vision. Rather than requiring people to travel to a special place just to meet horses, we wanted to create an environment where people could encounter them as part of their everyday lives—perhaps while shopping or traveling. This vision is what led us to choose this location.

At the same time, our decision was not based on location alone. The well-being of our horses has always been our first priority. We carefully considered every aspect of their environment, including sunlight, ventilation, safety, space for exercise, and hygiene management, before choosing this setting.

Pony Paradise is also an attempt to offer a new possibility to the idea that horses are animals we can only encounter in special places.

We hope to create a future where being close to horses can become a natural part of everyday life.

How We Designed the Terrace Turnout Area

Natural Grass Terrace
POINT

Growing Grass Suited to Tokyo’s Climate

With the health and comfort of our horses as our top priority, we grow fresh grass for them to graze on.

The grasses commonly used in Hokkaido’s pastures are not well suited to Tokyo’s hot climate. After extensive discussions with our landscaping specialists, we selected and mixed several varieties of grass that can grow well in Tokyo’s environment.

POINT

Is Urinating a Sign That They Feel Safe?

Horses cannot choose where they relieve themselves, so they may occasionally urinate on the terrace. In fact, this can be a sign that they feel relaxed and comfortable in the space. For us, those moments are something to be happy about.

At the same time, the terrace presented a challenge: because of its structure, urine does not easily soak into the ground. To help address this, we have incorporated beneficial microorganisms known as “Bacto bacteria” beneath the grass. These microorganisms help break down odors, allowing us to maintain a comfortable environment for both our horses and our guests.

How We Designed the Stables

Stress Reduction
POINT

We use one-way mirror film and roller blinds on the windows to partially block views of the outside and create a calm, comfortable environment for the horses.

The walls also incorporate sound-insulating materials to help reduce stress caused by surrounding noises.

Hygiene and Cleanliness
POINT

The stables are equipped with proper drainage systems, and we clean them regularly to help reduce odors and keep the environment free from dirt and waste.

Maintaining a clean and hygienic environment is an essential part of supporting the horses’ health and well-being.

Thoughtful Bedding Choices
POINT

We use bedding materials sourced from Lyon that help reduce dust and minimize the burden on the horses’ respiratory systems.

We also choose materials that are easy to compost after use, taking both the horses’ health and environmental impact into consideration.

Circulation

Keeping Their Environment Clean and Comfortable

We separate the horses’ waste into manure and soiled bedding and manage them separately.

Horse Manure We either compost the manure ourselves or pass it on to partner farmers, where it is put to good use as compost.
Soiled Bedding The soiled bedding is collected regularly by a specialized waste management company and disposed of appropriately.
A Day in the Life

A Day in the Life of Our Horses

5:30 AM Morning Walk

We adjust the timing and length of each horse’s walk every day according to their individual condition.

To ensure their safety and help everyone around them feel comfortable, we also provide regular training and carefully prepare the horses for their walks.

6:15 AM Breakfast

We adjust each horse’s diet and portion size according to their individual health and condition.

We carefully manage their daily meals, taking into account their digestive health and any changes in their condition.

7:00 AM Stable Cleaning

We thoroughly clean every corner of the stalls, removing manure and replacing soiled bedding.

Manure is an important indicator of a horse’s health. While keeping their environment clean and comfortable, we also carefully monitor the condition of their waste.

7:30 AM Health Checks & Grooming

We check their temperature, care for their hooves, and brush their coats. We carefully observe each horse so that we can notice even the smallest changes in their health or behavior.

We also provide regular vaccinations, weight checks, and other routine health care.

Relaxation Time

The horses have time to roam freely in the turnout area on the terrace, where they can relax at their own pace.

The turnout area is planted with fresh grass and pasture plants, creating a more natural environment for the horses. We continually look for ways to create a space where they can feel comfortable and experience as little stress as possible.

11:00 AM–2:00 PM Time with Guests

This is time for our horses to interact with guests staying at Pony Paradise.

6:30 PM Dinner

We adjust their evening meal according to each horse’s condition, offering a slightly different menu from breakfast.

9:00 PM Lights Out

Another day comes to an end. Thank you for all your hard work today. Good night.
